In Shelly Fryer's blog, Technology 101 Skills For Teachers, she wrote about integrating technology into classrooms. When integrating anything into a classroom, it needs to be organized. A Plus programs help teachers know the important parts of technology in lessons. There are reinforcements to teach such basic skills. There was a bolder section that stood out to be in her blog, "technology tools should be used to enhance and amplify student creativity." This was important to me as a reader because so many teachers believe they can just apply an app to a lesson. However, technology integration is only effective if it is using creativity, imagination, and when the students are making. Shelly Fryer has some tips for applying such integration in the classroom.
Teachers need their own iPad for their classroom and they need to know the proper ways to use it. Technology can be difficult to understand if you do not have any idea how to use it. The apps in the classroom should be easy for you, the teacher to understand. Students may be more tech savvy, but the teacher is the one that will be able to influence the app choices and what the students will be doing on an iPad. Teachers should influence creativity by knowing how to use the iPads tools such as camera roll, Share square, the home button, and etc.App literacy is one important concept when integrating technology in the classroom. |
Communication in classrooms is becoming more and more popular. More teachers are using channels, QR codes, and things like SeeSaw. Channels allow teachers to post students work on a class website like Mrs. Fryer's http://classroom.shellyfryer.com/. This website has access to videos and more creative ideas for learning. There is also access to her blog, radio show, and more resources. Her website is a great example of how teachers can share ideas and communicate outside of the classroom. The QR codes and SeeSaw help connect teachers to look at different lessons and they are quick, accessible locations for more ideas.
